Blah. Woke up at 4AM this morning. The motion detector light went off outside and made it seem like twilight to my fuddled senses, thereby rousing me. Since I was awake, I decided to check email and then go back to sleep. Big mistake. Huge. Checked email, and three hours later, I was still awake, so went upstairs to work in the library. Now the dearth of sleep is hitting me, but if I nap now, I’ll lose the day.
Should I take an Adderall and have some tea or go back to sleep? Decisions, decisions.
My brain’s too muzzy to be coherent, therefore I give you skunk pictures:
With Hobkin, it’s often a puzzle figuring out which end is the head. fosteronfilm calls him a skunk-fungus when he’s like this–striped mushroom skunk. Yep
Skunk ears are so cute! Hobkin also likes having them rubbed.
His profile in repose on my leg.

Writing Stuff
Took on another freelance job on a trial basis–to see if I like the gig and if the client likes my work. The pay’s not nearly as good and the assignment isn’t as interesting as the last one, but it’s money.
Bummer on the 4AM sleep disruption! Such things are so unpleasant; beverage based stimulants are my preferred treatment.
Last night I woke around 1AM and spent an hour watching the South Park movie along with lots of commercials, on Comedy Central. Reading e-mails and carousing the net would have been a better way to spend those sleepless hours.
How did you come by your current and your previous freelance assignments?
I haven’t had a problem with insomnia since I got on the Adderall, something of a contradictory state of affairs, admittedly. But I think with it regulating my sleep cycles better, I’ve been able to evade the no-sleep-for-you monster. Had another restless night last night, so I’m wondering if it’s the recent resumption of a regular application of beverage-based stimulants which is throwing off my chemically established equilibrium.
I like the skunk pictures, but being awake at 4am definitely sucks…It happened to me a couple of times, and I’d definitely say checking your mails, or doing anything that might break that sleep pattern, is bad (last time I did that, I took a book I had almost finished, and ended up staring at the ceiling for 3 hours, unable to go back to sleep).
Hope you can catch up on the missing sleep hours soon.
After a nasty bout of insomnia a couple years back, I even know better than to get involved with something when I wake up in the middle of the night, and yet . . .
Sigh.
I didn’t fall asleep last night until 7 this morning. Hopefully, I’m sufficiently groggy enough to sleep tonight. Not that it’s any help to my efficiency rate today. Sigh.
Huh. Must be something in the air throwing off Mr. Sandman. Sleep. Sleeeeep.
I hate that “woke up too early to be productive” syndrome. Happens to me all the time. Hope your day improved somehow. Maybe you can work on the less-than-inspiring NF writing job?
Hobkin is a charmer, as always!
Haven’t had to deal with insomnia in a while, and I think I might be hitting a new round of it. Had another bad night last night. Not good.
Are you getting enough exercise? A good walk (anywhere from one and a half to three miles) is better than a knock-out pill for me.
Awww, poor Eugie! Mamma has that problem, sometimes…although, she takes an “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” attitude to it that often results in a great deal of middle-of-the-night cooking, cleaning, and other noise-making feats, and results in a very cross, sleepy Keesa the next day, when she curls up for a nice long nap.
I never have been able to just randomly flip sleeping habits like that, though–dayurnal one day and noctural the next–so I usually settle for laying very still and trying to get back to sleep.
Hope this insomnia-bout passes quickly!
