Cabinet Des Fées Reviews Returning My Sister’s Face

This day did indeed improve! I came across a glowing review of Returning My Sister’s Face by Erzebet YellowBoy (erzebet) in the current issue (#8) of Cabinet Des Fées:

“Lovers of fairy and folk tales who crave, as I do, stories from cultures not their own will delight in these deceptively simple tales. They are layered with tragedy and superstition, with spirituality and most importantly, with a fine sense of the marvelous.”

Cabinet Des Fées actually reviewed a bunch of Norilana titles, with Vera being something of a featured author, including norilana‘s fabulous Dreams of the Compass Rose, Salt of the Air, and The Duke in His Castle.

Cleaning Fail. Movie Watching Win.

My folks are visiting from China next weekend. Planned to do a lot of housecleaning this weekend.

Massive cleaning fail.

But we did watch Bolt (Fun+) and Wolverine (Meh. Very meh. I had fewer suspension of disbelief issues with a talking animated dog than I did with Wolverine).

My excuse is that it rained all weekend, and I’m always low-energy and groggy when it rains—and I don’t take my uppers—and that’s the story I’m sticking with.

It’s the Little Things

Still playing mad catch-up. Still sound like a chain-smoking toad. But I got fan mail yesterday, so it’s all good.

Y’know, writers are pretty simple folk. A few appreciate comments, indication that our work is actually being read by someone, and we’re happy. Well, I’m happy.

A bestseller and a movie deal would be way nice, don’t get me wrong, but encouraging words of appreciation are really soul-nourishing.

Dragon*Con 2009

As I predicted, when we got home on Monday, there was great collapse. It wasn’t quite as bad as last year, whereupon dude_the, fosteronfilm, and I sprawled in the living room in post-battlefield attitudes of death and mayhem. But it was close.

My voice is still stripped, but I did manage to keep it until Monday, which is an improvement over previous years (please, please nobody phone me for a couple weeks, K?). And I opted not to go into work yesterday, and subsequently slept for something like 16 hours.

Now playing catch-up on all the post-convention correspondences, write-ups, reports, and sundry communications that I tabled until after Dragon*Con. If you sent me an email that you expect a reply to, please give me a couple more days to get caught up. Continue reading
