I ducked, I dodged, but amberdine tackled me, fair and square. I have been tagged.
List 5 reasons why you are a geek. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a geek you are! Then pick the 5 biggest geeks you know and have them do the meme.
1. I think men in stormtrooper uniforms, tights, cloaks, chainmail, and fangs (not necessarily all at the same time) are sexy. Even better if they can also quote scenes from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and use “grok” in a sentence. Likewise, men who can tear duct tape without using a knife, can set up a computer network from scratch, and who sew their own costumes turn me on.
2. The idea of a weekend long D&D gaming marathon makes me happy.
3. An afternoon spent at the Office Depot, spending a $20 gift card, is my idea of a fun outing. I like fondling Sharpie markers and went “squee” when fosteronfilm got me a USB flash drive for Christmas.
4. Editing is teh fun. I have grammatical pet peeves and become insufferably smug when I eradicate (someone else’s) tyops.
5. I went to a high school where the only winning teams were chess and math club. It also didn’t even have (and still doesn’t have, and probably never will have) a football team, although it routinely earns the distinction of the school with the highest class average ACT scores in the country. Go, Uni!
There are far too many geeks on my flist to pick five. Do the meme if it floats your socks, I sez.
And, for Monday fun, check out The Brick Testament, Bible stories illustrated with Legos. (Link ganked from the lovely and talented patricia_kirby.) And for something more secular, the award-winning “Blade of the Bunny” by dsnight, again illustrated with Legos. (Monday’s theme?)
Feeling much better today. Yesterday’s sale was just the thing to perk me right up. I’m such a sales junkie.

Writing Stuff
Started a new short story, a dark thing. It promises to be longer than flash, but relatively short. I’m hoping less than 4K.
New Words: 1000
500/day

Do you mind if I spam your journal briefly to plug the Lego Blade of the Bunny? I did this after reading a few other Lego sites, including the Brick Testament.
Sigh. I miss the days when I could do even an all-night D&D marathon. Lately, the whole group’s getting sleepy by 10 pm at the latest. It’s kind of sad…
Oh, I loved “Blade of the Bunny”! Both the story and the Lego scenes. I’m adding the link to my original post . . .
Thanks 🙂 Of course, now I’ll be tempted to send all manner of Lego links…
I remember a time when Legos came exclusively in brick shapes . . .
One of the best things about having kids is that I get to play with all of their new-fangled fancy toys.
One of the neighbor kids forgot his Nerf dart gun at our house the other day. The dang thing has a laser sight built in! (Which is great fun for entertaining the kitties!)
Sheesh. You know, back in the old days when I was a kid…
i found sidewalk chalk with built in lasers. i shudder to think of a toddler running around with a laser pointer.
Grin. My daughter would probably love Laser Chalk!
I think men in stormtrooper uniforms, tights, cloaks, chainmail, and fangs (not necessarily all at the same time) are sexy.
And now for the rest of the day I’ll be trying to imagine a situation where it would be proper to wear all of these at the same time.
Non sequitur: Friday?
Friday
My brain, she is easily confused. When you said “Friday?” it sent me to my calendar going “it’s Monday. Isn’t it Monday? It couldn’t possibly be Friday. Could it?”
It then occurred to me that you were asking about hanging out on Friday. Mmf. Our calendar is open. Whatcha wanna do?
Re: Friday
“It couldn’t possibly be Friday. Could it?”
You’re so funny when you say things!
“Whatcha wanna do?”
Dunno. The usual? Or something exciting and new?
Re: Friday
“Dunno. The usual? Or something exciting and new?“
You know I do!
And‘s insane “watch movies” idea just might be crazy enough to work!
Dinner and a movie it is, then! What time should we expect you over?
Six-ish? Or sooner; I’ll update as the situation develops. I’ll want to go for a run after work.
Sounds like a plan. See you on Friday!
It’ll be the highlight of my week!
Have Matthew tell me what we’ll be watching; I believe it’s his turn to pick.
Matthew wants to know if we have a genre preference to aid in his movie selection process. I shrugged and said “I dunno. I’ll ask Glenn.” So here’s me, asking if you have a genre preference to either rule out or vote in.
Let’s say no noir, no swashbucklers and no dystopian 70s science fiction, since we’ve done all that.
And no horror, because I don’t like horror.
And if there’s something(s) y’all want me to rent for us, let me know before tomorrow evening.
Geek
Duct tape without scissors? Ouch!
Joel
Re: Geek
I seen it done! I can’t do it, but it is possible. Somehow.
I must confess, I am a geek. =)
Yay! Geeks unite!
>Link ganked from the lovely and talented…
Well, garsh. Ye made me blush ‘n stuff.
>Likewise, men who can tear duct tape without using a knife, can set up a computer network from scratch, and who sew their own costumes turn me on.
[Fans self.] Is it toasty in here? Although…I always attributed my man’s duct tape facility to his inherent red-neckness. He’s never sewn anything, but he makes swords and armour. That aughta count for somethin’. ?
Pat Kirby
Men who can make their own armor and weaponry definitely qualify for yummy in my book! Rawwwr.
Bah!
I just want to point out that we beat your chess team fair and square at State my Freshman year, but, no, the IHSA couldn’t have the public school in the cornfields beating such a prestigious school, so they went and changed how the tie breaks were calculated after the tourniment was over. And then to add insult to injury, we were bumped up to AA the next year, so you guys could keep on beating up on the poor, safe rural schools, and we had to face the Russian-speaking teams from Chicago. *grumble* Who, me? Bitter? Nah…. 😉
Um… I think that counted as five good reasons why I’m a geek. 😉
Re: Bah!
Just can’t let that go, can you?
